The Fairfield Foundation for Education says it has a way for you to do just that.

The Fairfield Foundation for Education recently restarted its “Honor an Educator” program. The system allows parents to make a gift to the foundation in honor of a teacher, coach or administrator in Fairfield Public Schools.

]]> Although winter has been kind to us thus far, we still look forward to spring. When it does arrive, you might want to keep in mind that there is a new butterfly garden in the front of Osborn Hill Elementary School for the entire Fairfield community to enjoy.

The garden’s creation is the result of a grant received from the Fairfield Foundation for Education and the generosity of Scott Jameson at Oliver’s Nursery, who donated plants for the garden. Also, special thanks go to Matt Almay, and to Marcos, Alfredo, and Kaylor at Oliver’s, who spent hours preparing the ground and doing the actual planting.

]]> Fourth graders at North Stratfield School have been immersed in the life and times of Abraham Lincoln for two weeks this year as they sing and play their way through history. It’s all about combining music, games and history, according to Patricia Kassay, the North Stratfield School physical education teacher who applied for a grant from the Fairfield Foundation for Education to fund the project. Along with music teacher Trisha McDonald, the pair planned a two-week program for students to learn and participate in traditional mid 19th- century games including Peg Top, Whirli-Gig, Rolling Hoop, Quoits, Pick-Up Sticks, and Jacob’s Ladder, and to learn to play the tin penny whistle in music class.
